TRAHVOL Power Line Project Update - July 4th, 2005

Tsawwassen Residents Against Higher Voltage Overhead Lines

·   TRAHVOL, with the help of many residents, succeeded in removing the threat of high voltage overhead lines through Tsawwassen, March 17th, 2005 (Energy Minister Neufeld re-confirmed June 10, 2005 that overhead lines will not be installed)

·   TRAHVOL, after extensive research, has recommended a number of viable alternative routes that would bypass Tsawwassen, moving the lines away from our homes, schools, parks, daycare centers and extended care facilities (See Routes 1 – 5)

·   BCTC (British Columbia Transmission Corporation) insists on pursuing an underground route through Tsawwassen (See Routes 6a & 6b)

·   BCTC does not have the underground rights in the current right of way (The original encumbrance established in 1955 was for aerial rights only)

·   BCTC could expropriate 150+ properties, or alternately, they could go through any street in Tsawwassen (all streets are deemed public utility corridors)

Did you know:

·         The existing right of way is only an aerial encumbrance over resident’s private property

·         The residents pay full residential taxes on the encumbered land

·         100% of the residents surveyed by TRAHVOL rejected any route proposal through Tsawwassen

·         BCTC has stated that the existing overhead lines will remain until 2018 or beyond. TRAHVOL has proposed options that allow removal by 2008

·         BCTC expects residents of Delta to contribute up to $13.7 million dollars toward this industrial scale provincial project

·         BCTC accepts levels of Electromagnetic Fields that are over 200 times greater than recommended by the World Health Organization

·         Alternative economically feasible technologies exist that would allow installation of the new transmission lines without any potential health risks

This industrial sized mega-project does not belong in a residential community. The project will impact everyone in Tsawwassen, for the next 50 years. Thank you for supporting TRAHVOL’s fight to have the lines rerouted away from residential Tsawwassen!

TRAHVOL is committed to work with all levels of government and BCTC to find a resolution to this issue that satisfies the need for additional power on Vancouver Island which at the same time does not compromise the quality of life, health and concerns of South Delta residents.
