BRINGS RENOWNED EMF ACTIVIST MILT BOWLING TO SPEAK AT PUBLIC MEETING AND
LAUNCHES PETITION
Tsawwassen Residents Against Higher Voltage Overhead Lines (“TRAHVOL”) are holding a public meeting Tuesday, February 22 (7:00 p.m. at South Delta Secondary High School) featuring key-note speaker Milt Bowling, a well known Vancouver EMF expert and community activist.
Mr. Bowling is the Executive Director of the Electro Magnetic Radiation Task Force (a citizens group concerned about EMF radiation in homes and offices) and President of the Health Action Network Society. He has successfully fought over 100 cell phone and power proponents and was an active intervener in Sumas 2. He was also instrumental in a recent Vancouver School Board ruling which prohibits installation of cell towers near schools. His presentation will focus on community activism and provide further insight into the environmental and health impacts of high voltage transmission systems.
TRAHVOL is also launching a petition against BCTC’s proposal to install new high voltage towers through residential areas of Tsawwassen. Citizens are growing increasingly concerned about the potential adverse health risks. New information provided by BCTC confirms that the EMF levels will be between 80-120mG with installation of the proposed 230 kV lines. This is 30 times higher than the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer warning for childhood leukemia, which classified EMF as “possibly carcinogenic to humans based on a fairly consistent association between a doubling of risk of childhood leukemia and magnetic field exposure above 4 mG”.* The new high voltage lines will pass directly over the high school sports field, near two elementary schools, a pre-school and over 200 homes.
TRAHVOL is encouraging the public to attend the meeting to hear progress to date, voice concerns and sign the petition to prevent BCTC from proceeding with the current proposal. TRAHVOL is a homeowners’ group formed in response to BCTC’s plan to install higher voltage transmission lines though the middle of residential Tsawwassen.
